I know because I have witnessed it firsthand from friends, acquaintances and clients. Although there are many challenges to running a successful business, many entrepreneurs in service-type or small, brick and mortar businesses fail because of failure to master the basics. Yes, many entrepreneurs fail due to lack of understanding of business fundamentals, due to poor planning or no planning at all, lack of knowledge as to how to run a business, or not enough attention given to developing the skills necessary to run a business successfully.

In my travels, I meet talented and gifted people who are passionate about their product, service or idea. However, I find that, although so many entrepreneurs have gifts/talents, what I call the product side of business, they know little about how to manage the business side of business.
